International logistics
This 50,000m2 warehouse development in the East Midlands has the capacity for 110,000 pallets, including 46,000 pallets of goods subject to Control of Major Accident Hazards (COMAH) Regulations, for its retail and consumer business segments.
Featuring a 28m high bay and 18m low bay, the site allows for the highest possible racking to improve pallet density.
This international logistics company were in need of a fire alarm and disabled refuge system for this fast-track build.
The challenges
- A high bay requires the right type of detector for the highest level of safety.
- Multiple racking makes installing sounders a challenge as it will impact sound levels.
- Any systems must be fully compliant.
- This fast-track build requires a quick installation.
- Our project management and installation teams must navigate around the site in collaboration with other trades.
Solution
Due to our established relationship with the client’s electrical contractor, they were confident to entrust us with this big task. Our vast experience of large-scale warehouse and distribution projects means the risk of failure has been mitigated by a solid, well thought-out design.
Technology provided
- The comprehensive two panel Gent Vigilon network was selected for this project. It includes a repeater panel located in the gatehouse.
- An aspirating smoke detection system has been selected for the high bay and mezzanine area. This allows for easy maintenance and ensures the system complies with British Standards.
- Traditional beam smoke detectors installed in the low bay and COMAH areas.
- High power, high output sounder and visual alarm devices installed at the perimeter of the low bay racked areas ensure they can be heard from all locations.
Outcome
The expertise of our project management and installation team means we are able to navigate our way around the site in collaboration with the other trades to complete on time and on budget.
